“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” ― Nelson Mandela
Writing a book has been one of my lifelong dreams. Looking back on my experiences writing THRIVE!, I learned some important life lessons about pursuing a dream. Here are three:
Life Lesson #1: I have enough time. So many people have asked me how I found the time to write a book. The short answer is that I am actually the queen of my time. I choose how I spend my time. I can use my time wisely. I can waste my time. I can grant others permission to waste my time. But I cannot run out of time. It’s mine. My decisions and my actions dictate what I choose to do with my time.
Life Lesson #2: I am responsible for my dream. I have wanted to write a book for as long as I can remember. It’s been one of my lifelong dreams. But I have realized that no one can care as much about my dream as I can. Just like my time is mine, my dream is mine. I am responsible to give life to my dream.
Life Lesson #3: I must give myself permission. Six months ago, my book did not exist. It was just a concept in my head. Just a dream. I thought about it: “Someday, I will write that book.” Then, it dawned on me: just like I am queen of my time, I am queen of my dream. I must grant myself permission to pursue my dream. Once I do that, anything is possible.
Do you have a lifelong dream that you have yet to pursue? Believe me, you have enough time. Grant yourself permission.
